Electronic Medical Records

Your electronic medical records system needs specific hardware and operating requirements for each workstation to allow it to run efficiently. Obviously, this list could change to meet your specific requirements, but this is a good example of the hardware needed for a typical EHR system.

Workstations

  • 1 GHz processor or greater
  • Windows XP Professional (not compatible with XP Pro 64bit or Vista Business 64bit)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 2 GB of free hard disk space
  • CD-ROM
  • Network Interface Card 100Mb/sec w/ TCP/IP
  • Video Resolution of 1024x768 or greater
  • 17” display size or greater
  • Antivirus software



Scanners

  • TWAIN compliant scanners
  • Recommended: Fujitsu scanner models fi-6130C, fi-6230C, fi-4340C

FAX/Interface Workstation (EHR only)
  • Each practice requires a dedicated FAX/Interface workstation configured same as above with the addition of
  • 56K fax/modem V.92 (dedicated analog phone line required)
  • Recommended: USRobotics modems


Tablet/Notebook Computers

  • 1 GHz processor or greater

VPN/Router/Firewall

  • Dual WAN VPN Routers w/ SPI Firewall
  • Recommended Cisco RV082 8-port 10/100 VPN Router

Internet Access

  • Broadband internet connection with a static IP is required for each location
  • Minimum bandwidth requirement is 384k upstream/384k downstream for the first 5 users
  • Add 32k per location for each additional user
