Smartphone Reviews - Will it replace your Pager?

A recent survey for smartphone reviews showed that 63% of physicians currently use a Smartphone. This use is expected to jump to 81% by 2012.

Many believe that smartphones are going to replace pagers in the hospital settings.

However, smartphones do present some problems.

The first is flat out cost. The hospital pays about $50 per year for a pager, whereas a smartphone costs about $600 per year. Many physicians are unwilling to use their own personal devices for business use.

Also, cell phone reception and dropped calls are still a big problem in many parts of the country. Additionally, many times just being IN a hospital limits cell phone reception.

Plus, there is concern that smartphones do not meet necessary requirement for an audit trail like pagers do.
